The Quiet Ecstasy of Being Alive
In a recent reflection, The Kaleidoscope of Being, I explored the idea that our identity is not fixed but constantly renewing — like a kaleidoscope whose patterns are always shifting.
Sometimes this unfolding is not only understood conceptually.
It is felt.
There are moments when the turning of the kaleidoscope becomes an experience of deep aliveness moving through the body. A subtle current of vitality begins to flow — a sense of presence that is rich, vibrant, and quietly ecstatic.
This aliveness can express itself in many ways.
As creativity.
As warmth in the heart.
As a deep sense of connection with life.
Sometimes as pleasure moving through the body — not in the sense of seeking sensation, but as a natural expression of life energy flowing freely.
In these moments we may glimpse something ancient that many traditions have pointed toward: Eros as the movement of life itself.
Not merely desire directed toward something outside us, but the intrinsic impulse of life to express, create, connect, and experience itself.
When the patterns of identity soften and the system becomes more open, this current of aliveness can move more freely. The body becomes more sensitive, more receptive, more alive.
Pleasure then is not something we chase.
It is something that naturally arises when life is allowed to move unobstructed.
Ecstasy, in this sense, is not a peak experience that we grasp for.
It is a state of profound aliveness — the feeling of being intimately connected with the living flow of existence.
And like the kaleidoscope, this too is always changing.
Sometimes subtle.
Sometimes powerful.
Always moving.
Always renewing itself.
“Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough”
Emily Dickinson
